Located in the Covington Branch Library's Heritage Room are various sources of historical and genealogical information that concentrate on Georgia and especially on Newton County and the surrounding areas. The materials include census records and Soundex, Revolutionary War and Confederate veterans rosters, local newspapers back to 1868, the Georgia Death Index, county histories and the Official Records of the Confederate and Union Armies. Although Heritage Room items cannot be checked out of the library, a photocopy machine is nearby. Most of the items in this room are included in the PINES catalog at

Online Research: Also available are specifically designed computer menus that provide access to a variety of databases and web sites that include information from various genealogy and historical resources. In the library you will have access to both Ancestry Plus and Heritage Quest. Outside of the library, you can access Heritage Quest by logging into your PINES account and then going to GALILEO. See our GALILEO page for further directions.

Newton Commons: Within the Heritage Room we have a special collection of documents called the Newton Commons. These are grant applications with supporting documentation that have been submitted by area agencies with greater detail on each application found in the PINES Catalog.
